Latest News from Defence minisitry of India Comes today When Defence Minisiter of India Sri Rajnath Singh announced that India will move towards atmanirbharta in defence equipment manufacturing.

What is the Latest News from Indian Defence?


Defence minister Sri Rajnath Singh said that Indian defence ministry is taking steps to ensure that India become self reliant in defence equipment manufacturing.

Defence Ministry is making a list of 101 items that will be put under import restriction list. This move is taken as an initiative to push the local manufacturing of defence equipment  which is in line with the flagship scheme of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” started by Modi Sarkar.

The list of 101 items not only includes the simple parts but also the highly sophisticated items such as transport aircraft, assault rifles, artillery guns, Sonar systems, radar systems and many more.

The latest news from defence ministry came just after few days when India announced its new defence production policy.

Defence Minister through a series of tweet said that the decision will offer indigenous manufacture a great opportunity to produce the defence equipment. This decision will promote indigenous research and development and improvement in the defence capabilities under changing warfare scenario. The indigenous defence industry can build the items mentioned in the list with an advanced version by using their own R&D.

The restriction is planned to be implemented between 2020 to 2024 progressively.

The list is prepared by the Ministry of Defence after many rounds of discussion which was held with all the stakeholder such as all the three armed forces, private  and public industries etc.

The list is made keeping in the focus the present as well as future requirements for the armed forces. The list was also prepared keeping in mind the present and future preparedness of Indian Defence Industry in terms of producing the arms and ammunitions indigenously.

The total budget anticipation for the latest defence ministry announcement is approximately 4 Lac crore. Out of this 4 Lac crore, 1.3 Lac crore is anticipated for Army and Airforce each.  And remaining 1.4 Lac crore is for Navy. 


The latest news came from defence ministry is in line with the Self reliant India.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier gave a call for an  “Atmanirbhar Bharat” based on the 5 pillars Economy, Infrastructure, System, Demography & Demand and announced a special economic package for Self-Reliant India named ‘Atamnirbhar Bharat.

Why the Latest News announced?


This latest news comes in the wake of time when the tension from our neighbour China is all time high. And relation with Pakistan needs no special mention.

India is determined to improve upon the defence infrastructure which not only includes the acquisition of state of the art defence equipment but also improving upon the mobility infrastructure of the defence forces of India. Below is the budget allocation of Indian Defence forces.

Expenditure on defence is considered as revenue expenditure and not the capital expenditure.  But this expenditure is necessary in case of India considering the volatile relation with our neighbours.

Latest news from Indian defence being Atmanirbhar in defence manufacturing is the need of the hour. It will make India in coming years as exporter of defence parts and equipments instead of importer. Job Creation, improved basic infrastructure in the vicinity of Industrial establishment etc are other added advantage.
